Friday's Favorite

I was at a loss as for what to write about today. I asked my mom if she had any ideas and later she gave me this idea, which was perfectly fitting. Remember, I've told you my mom is good and this is just how good she is.
She reminded me that today would have been Granny's (my dad's mom) birthday. Now Granny was one of my all time favorite people.  She and I had a special relationship, one that I'll always cherish. I miss her so much, but am thankful that a little part of her lives on through my sister and me. You see, Granny was so talented. She could cook and bake and decorate and make all kinds of crafty things. I didn't get her talent for cooking and baking, but my sister sure did. That girl can whip up the most delicious (and gorgeous) Coconut Cake and Italian Cream Cake you've ever tasted (and seen). But, I'd like to think that I got my passion for for decorating and crafts from Granny.
Well, my mom also reminded me of a pitcher that I have that belonged to Granny. This pitcher is made of cut glass. I have never been too fond of cut glass, but I treasure this pitcher because it belonged to Granny's mother, Big Mama (my great-grandmother for whom I'm named). My mom suggested that I make a flower arrangement for the pitcher-what a wonderful idea! If you remember, I've told you that I love flowers and I get that from Granny. She was a remarkable floral arranger and just loved flowers-any kind, anywhere. So, these flowers are in memory of my sweet Granny, she'll always be a favorite. I think she would be proud of me.

Mama, thank you for this idea. It was the perfect suggestion for a Friday Favorite!

Curtain Call-Take 2

You may remember my fabric quandary from here. Well, the decision was made and I'd like you to meet my new shower curtain. I’m very lucky to have my own personal upholsterer/seamstress. She’s my mother-in-law and she’s got talent when it comes to fabric. Like I said, lucky for me cause I love, love, love fabric. So far, she’s made an upholstered headboard and curtains for our guest room, a valance for our master bedroom (made out of two pillow cases), a valance for our kitchen and a number of throw pillows for different rooms. That’s not to mention the three chairs and sofa she reupholstered for us. You'll have to stay tuned for pics on all the goods later (in my house tour, which is coming very soon). For Christmas, she whipped up this shower curtain for our guest bath. I love it!

Friday's Favorite

Isn't she lovely? You might not believe this, but I turned my nose up at her the first time I saw her. Sad, I know. I had a change of heart, though. You see, she used to live with my mom. Now she lives with me. And, I love her. Since I've had her, she's moved from room to room adding a special touch everywhere she visits. She makes me happy and Fridays make me happy, too. Happy Friday to you!

Tray Chic

A recent post led me to do some changing and rearranging. The post captures many a tray sitting pretty. So, being the copycat that I am, I was off to fix up a tray for myself. I had this tray on a bed with an assortment of magazines. I liked her there. But, she needed a new home. Now this tray lives in the living room, on the oak table you may remember from here, with some different friends. I think she likes it in her new home, she fits in nicely.

A Tisket, A Tasket

I really love a nice basket. They are practical and pretty. I have them everywhere. In my kitchen, I have one under the sink holding my dish towels and in the pantry holding baking supplies. I have a couple that house my magazine addiction-I mean collection.  I have some in the bathrooms for toilet paper and hair products (in separate baskets, of course). I have one for laundry supplies and one or two for craft supplies. I have them in drawers to hold pens, paper and such. I think that makes it official - I'm a basket case. I like it when I make myself laugh! Are you a basket case?

This Bud's For You

These petite bud vases, petite being the key word, were given to me from my parents for Christmas. I have a tendency not to pay attention to the dimensions of things I see in catalogs and you know those pictures can be quite deceiving. Well, these petite bud vases are in fact petite. It was quite funny as I pulled them from their tiny packaging on Christmas morning. They weren't exactly what I had in mind, but I do think they are quite lovely. I put them out today using a few leftover buds from some other arrangements I made. They really are perfect for the leftovers. I'm very pleased with the way they turned out. In fact, I imagine I'll be using them quite a bit!

Things to Come

Well, I wanted to kick off the new year with some fabulous and frequent posts, but that clearly hasn’t happened. This whole sickness has really taken a toll on me, my house (it’s a mess!!!) and my crafts. I just haven’t had the energy to tackle anything! I have been thinking about some upcoming posts, though. So, I thought I’d let you know what’s in store.
First of all, you may remember this. I got a new computer from my hubby for Christmas and my parents gave me Photoshop to go along with it. I’ll be starting a Photoshop class (it’s a community course offered through Auburn) next week. I’m super excited to learn all about it and hopefully put my new knowledge to work. I’m sure I’ll be doing some posts on that.
Then, I have my new shower curtain that I’m just dying to show you. You may recall my dilemma. Well, my mother-in-law took care of that for me. It sure is nice to have a professional upholsterer/seamstress in the family (although she might just disagree).
Of course, I have some home decorating to do. I actually made a list, room by room, of all the things I’d like to work on. Ummm, I don’t think that was the best idea considering that I would only deem one room of my house completely finished.
Speaking of that, I also realized that I’ve never given you a tour of my house. I’ve shown you little snippets here and there, but that isn’t the same. So, I’d say a proper house tour is in order-as soon as I get it cleaned up, that is.
I do hope you’ll keep coming back for all that is to come.

Long Time No Post

It's been awhile. I've been sick, really sick. Feeling better now, thanks. Just in time to go visit my sister in Hotlanta even though it wasn't hot! My mom, sister and I enjoyed some good quality girl time. We shopped, ate, talked and laughed and that's about it. Oh yeah, we did sleep. It was so much fun-the shopping, eating, talking and laughing-that is. Hopefully, I'll be back in the swing of things next week with some new and exciting posts. Well, exciting may be pushing it a bit. Anyway, I'll be back!

Friday's Favorite

For Christmas my sister and my parents gave me these plates. I have been wanting something like this for awhile. I love my other dishes which you can see and read about here. But, they just don't do for Thanksgiving-this Thanksgiving I actually contemplated, quite seriously, buying new dishes. Plus, my dining room is connected to my living room which is decorated in brown and light turquoise. So, the vibrant colors of my other dishes clash just a bit. Well, now that little dilemma is solved and I couldn't be more excited.
Earlier today I told my hubby I felt kind of lost. I explained that I don't have any occasion for which to decorate. You know we go from Halloween right into Thanksgiving and then comes Christmas. I've had lots to keep me busy since September. He told me to start thinking about Easter. I told him I have been to which he laughed. But seriously, I have been thinking about Easter and thinking about my new dishes. I plan to pair them with some chocolate brown chargers (my sister's idea) and robin's egg blue cloth napkins. Yummy, don't you think? Happy Friday!!!

A few of my favorite things

Here are a couple of other Christmas gifts (from my other Santa-my mom and dad). They are so good to me, too. I got lots of fun stuff this year like these books and this monogram. I'm still working on getting my house back to normal and finding homes for all of my new goodies. Hope you all had a great start to 2009!
